Perceptions, Defining Personal Truth

by CJ Carl

Altered perspectives alter apparent "truths".Perceptions are like opinions, everybody has one. Unlike opinions, however, no two are exactly alike. Oh, they can be influenced by the opinions, statements and demands of others, but they always manage to retain at least a small amount of uniqueness. This is a good thing, because it is the perceptions of each individual that shape the life they lead.

As many are aware these days, we are all the creators of our own lives. What we focus on, and back by emotion, becomes our reality. The perspective we view ourselves and everything around us from, creates the mental focus for what we believe to be true. Our perspective creates the habits we turn the majority of our life over to. Our habits, in turn, loyally support the existence that our perspective has created for us. Our perceptions define our personal truths.

As an example, let's take an experience that you may have had today or recently. You are in your car, driving to the store. Suddenly a car swerves from the left lane and comes dangerously close to clipping you. Then, just as suddenly the driver of the other car sees an opening in the adjacent lane, swerves into it and speeds away.

Your first thought (the habitual one) is to get upset about what a jerk that other driver is. From your perspective, he was a careless driver that deserves to get into an accident and where oh where are the cops when you need one! You may fume for hours over the actions of that driver and much of your day is spent in a foul mood because of your anger at that driver.

Now let's take a different perspective. Let's pretend that we can hear inside the head of the other driver, We hear the phone call that he received about 15 minutes ago. A policeman had called to let him know that his wife had a nasty accident with the lawn mower and is on her way to the hospital in an ambulance. She has lost a lot of blood, but the ambulance got to her on time. The policeman is at his home with his young children until he can get there. We sense his fear for his wife who he loves dearly and concern for his children in the custody of a policeman until he can get there. The only thought in his head is to get to his children and then to the hospital to be with his wife.

Unlikely? Not necessarily. The "truth" of the situation that you see only comes from your own concerns for yourself, without any knowledge of what the perspective of the other person might be. If you were to be aware of the scenario mentioned above, wouldn't your reaction be totally different? What if you decided to give each person you come across, the benefit of the doubt and respond as if something like the above situation were the "truth" at this time. Wouldn't you create habits that responded to other people and situations in a whole new way. If you did that, how would it impact the world you live in on a day to day basis.

We can, through conscious intent, change the perspective from which we view all things. As we work to change our perspective, how we perceive everything begins to shift and our altered perceptions go to work, changing the habits that are in charge of our day to day lives. As these changes filter through our perceptions to our habits, the energetic draw changes and adjusts the world we live in to match the view from our new perspective.

You must understand, it is out of the formless void of infinite potential that your mind, through the filters of its perceptions, creates a vision of what you expect to see. Therefore, all deeply held and emotionally supported "truths" held within your perceptions become self fulfilling prophesies.

If you want to change the path you are on, you must change your perspective. Once you begin to see from that altered perspective, things look different and old truths tend to fall away. Your horizons expand, new possibilities open and a wider universe is available. Only by changing your perspective, your way of viewing things, can you escape the boundaries inherent in your belief in the apparent truths of your perceptions.

So, beware those who would control how you see the world, for if allowed, they will control the boundaries of your perceived world and limit the heights to which you can soar.
